Pam Lewis - Artist
I was born in Palo Alto July 30, 1950 and spent most of my life in
Northern California, 20 years in Sonoma County, where I live with my
husband Rick and various critters - dogs, chickens, horses and a pig
- on a small ranch and pinot noir vineyard in the Russian River
Valley.
Like many late-blooming painters, I have a commercial arts
background, working the past 30 years as an illustrator and graphic
design artist specializing in services for the wine industry;
illustration, logo & package design, and website development. A few
years ago a good friend coaxed me into taking a painting class...
the exploration continues!
Being an artist satisfies my passion for change, challenge, and
exploration. I am inspired to capture, in paint, bits of the
whimsical and beautiful nature that surrounds me.
Western Folk and Big Skies
I grew up listening to my Grandfather's stories of his parents who
emigrated from Ireland and Scotland to work the California gold
fields, and about growing up in the Sierra Foothills in the early
1900's. Historic novels about how the West was won, cowboy
television series & movies of the 50-60's, Arizona Highways, the art
of Maynard Dixon - Frederick Remington, and road trips through
deserts and big sky country, ignited my romance for the images and
colors of the West.
For the Birds
Our home is a wildlife sanctuary filled with an abundant variety of birds that make their home in the berry bushes along the
creek, the rafters of our barn, vineyard, cattle ranch and wooded
acres beyond. I love watching and painting our birds!
